Volunteers needed for
2011 dig and sale!

Volunteers who help with the dig on Saturday, August 13th and the sales days of Saturday, August 20th and Sunday, August 21st will receive special iris as “payment” for their volunteer time.  These iris will be varieties not included in the Public Sale and will only be available to members who volunteer to work at least a half day at either the dig or sale.  We start the dig at 7:30 am on the 13th and, with lots of helping hands, can be done by 4:30 pm.

The Iris Demonstration Garden at the MN Landscape Arboretum is a very popular attraction for visitors during June.  We dig approximately 1/3 of the varieties each year to keep the plants from getting overcrowded.  Digging & cleaning the iris is dirty work, but everybody has a good time doing it.  A portion of the rhizomes is replanted (by the Arboretum’s gardeners) but the excess is sold as our fundraiser.  The sale days coincide with Flower Fest Weekend so it will be a busy, fun weekend to spend at the Arboretum!  See the Event Calendar for times.

Lunch will be provided in the Picnic Shelter for the dig on August 13th.  Sales helpers will have to provide their own lunch or visit the Arboretum’s cafeteria o August 20th-21st.

Contact Edie Godfrey through membership@irismn.org if you can work the dig and/or the sale.
